The transition since leaving the family nest in the “sunny” seaside town of Bray, and landed in the concrete jungle that is New York City, has been, somewhat, hectic. Two months in: a new distributor, St. Patrick’s day, 2 coasts seen, 3 trade shows, 8 states covered, 14 new colleagues, 508 kilometres walked. But most importantly, many new experiences and memories.
Concrete Jungle is a great analogy to describe this bustling city. The treetops replaced by skyscrapers, stretching as far as the eye can see. The diversity and freedom of expression mirroring the countless species encountered in a jungle. The number of bars, restaurants, and liquor stores representing the source of opportunity.
Granted, the morning call is replaced by car horns, and Lion’s roar is reintegrated by the occasional “HEY, I’M WALKIN OVAH HERRRRE!!!”. But the energy of this busy and business focused city is infectious. And let’s be honest, not many would argue against it being the drinks (if not the overall) capital of the world.
However, as in nature, this city is the epitome of survival of the fittest. It’s fast, it’s furious, it’s vicious. For those who came in search of the American dream, few have conquered, and innumerable packs have failed.
How does Lambay Irish Whiskey company fit into this ferocious environment? We’re small but nimble. Able to adapt to market demands. We don’t have the same bureaucratic systems in place, allowing us to make decisions promptly. There’s incredible industry experience. Trojan-esque work-ethic from the likes of Sabine Sheehan and the rest of the team. We have a proven importer. One of the largest distributors. A partnership with Camus Cognac, who honour their age-old traditions producing exemplary product. And of course, a quality liquid, uncorking the unique by solely finishing our whiskey in the hand-selected Cognac casks of Camus.
It’s a long road. Swinging between the avenues of the city and avoiding the various obstacles of the jungle. But where there is a will, there is a way, and if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.
