It's a-me Mario, would you like an Irish Cinnamon Espresso Martini?
Updated: Jan 20, 2021
What do Microsoft Word, the first mobile phone, Mario on Nintendo, and espresso martinis all have in common? They were all invented in 1983.
The espresso martini was created by Dick Bradsell while he was working at the Soho Brasserie. Legend has it that a young, soon to be supermodel saddled up on a seat next to the bar and requested a cocktail with coffee in it. He shook her a drink using vodka, sugar, coffee liqueur, and espresso. Thank you, Dick, for creating this drink that keeps us going “All Night Long” (also released in 83).
Here’s my Irish twist on the formidable concoction
- 35ml Irish Whiskey
- 15ml Kahlua
- 15ml Cinnamon Syrup
- Dash of Chocolate Bitters (optional)
- 30ml Espresso
Add all ingredients into a shaker and shake hard for 15 seconds.
Strain over a chilled coupe glass
5 Cinnamon Sticks
Bring to a boil and stir until dissolved.
Let Steep for 30min and strain
Now all that's left to do is party "all night long".
